SAA national cross country on 17 jan 09

Its the 58th SAA national cross crountry competition.Ms Sheikha has chosen a few of the boys in cross country to participate. And i was chosen to be in the team called Victoria Professional.the team members are me, Sean from 1B Ryan from 2A and Dion from 2G.

The day was hot but windy and our race was smack right in the afternoon at 320 pm. After we have done our warm up, a representative from RED BULL, came and lets us try a few samples of RED BULL. She says that it will give us energy for 3 to 5 hrs.And will boost our performance during the race.

As we walk to the starting line, the excitement and anxiousness grew by each seconds.

As the signal goes, everyone sprinted trying to take the lead. I knowing myself well in races knew, that i have a slow start and didn't sprint to the pack infront. As i slowly gain a fast but steady pace, i saw my friend Joel slowing down.He has stitch otherwise he wont be running so slow.As head wind blew hard on us, a few runners from other school slow down. And i slowly overtake them. I could see the finshing line and was going in to having bigger stride when suddenly a guy from Raffles institution overtake me. I was determined to be in the top 20 and dont want to lose out and i quietly fellow him behind.

As the finishing line became closer , the RI boy soon became even faster and the distance between him and me was drifting. Not wanting to let VS down, i sprint pass him at the very end.But i just hope i helped my team overall. As we waited patiently for the results to come out, i was just asking my friend how they felt during the run. Some were confident of doing well, some were just disaaponted with themselve for not performing.
20 minutes of waiting and the results were out. And when my friends told me that i was in the top 10, i didn't belive them and ask if they were joking. Not beliving them, i went to check the results and indeed, i was in the top 10! I was placed 9th position. I was speechless and was very proud of myself for getting such good results.

And when i go up to collect my medal,I told myself to work hard to maintain this kind of standard. Both our C and B division won the gold and Ms Sheikha was very happy.

At the end of the day,all the effort and hardwork paid off as i gotten myself in the top 10.It was really a day to remember.
